Overcoming injury and loss for a better future

Overcoming injury and loss for a better future

Winners Against All Odds focuses on the health problems which restrict education in the blockade.

Delays in border crossing permits for specialized hospital treatment, a shortage of medical supplies, improperly trained medical staff as a result of the imposed isolation, and the damage done to the health service infrastructure all contribute to incredibly challenging circumstances for the health service in the blockade.

There are a number of things that we focus our attention on to make lasting and impactful changes.

We are determined to liberate individuals from any sense of physical vulnerability by providing excellent post-operative care and physiotherapy.

We also work to find ways of financing prosthetic limb work and aid the process of adapting to life after limb amputation.

We find ways of improving on the education that disabled young people can enjoy and benefit from, tailoring the experience for them and valuing their hopes and dreams alongside their peers.

The changes that we have planned in partnership with Qatar Red Crescent hope to make great infrastructural changes. We want to improve the lives of the 70,000+ disabled people in Gaza and the West Bank; with one third of this total caused by injury, and the majority of which will need long-term help.

Hearing and vision impairment in young people will be identified quickly, and treated accordingly.

Anxiety and depression are also common in the blockade, as a result of the trauma of attacks witnessed and loved ones lost. We hope to treat these illnesses more thoroughly and on a longer-term basis, for greater and lasting effect.

In adopting this multi-focused approach, we are already seeing the positive and wide-reaching effects of these services, in the area.
